Yannick Wurm is a Programme Director at the UK’s Advanced Research and Invention Agency (ARIA), where he leads ARIA’s Engineering Ecosystem Resilience space, which aims to harness modern technologies to create a more intentional relationship between humanity and nature. He also created ARIA’s Accelerated Adaptation programme, which seeks to develop the ability to help wild species overcome the challenges they face. Together, these efforts aim to create novel precision tools that fill a gap alongside traditional nature stewardship approaches.
Yannick is also Professor of Evolutionary Genomics and Bioinformatics at Queen Mary University of London. His laboratory has two primary streams of research: disentangling the genes and evolutionary forces that underpin life in ant societies, and using high-resolution molecular and AI-based approaches to improve the assessment of pollinator health. He has published over 50 papers.
In addition, Yannick has built startups commercialising the SequenceServer genome analysis software and the Sensibee autonomous insect camera trap. His career reflects a consistent focus on translating advances in genomics, AI, and engineering into practical tools for biodiversity and environmental resilience.
