Dr. Yiwen Pan received her B.S. in Biomedical Engineering, Zhejiang University, her M.S. in Geology and Geophysics, University of Minnesota, and a PhD in Zhejiang University. She joined Zhejiang University, one of the top five Universities in China in 2007, and became an associate professor in 2016. Dr. Pan is now a deputy director of the Institution of Marine Chemistry and Environment, Zhejiang University.

Dr. Pan’s research interests mainly focus on marine carbon cycling and electrochemical sensor development, especially on monitoring the key parameters to reveal the carbon cycling response to the artificial system such as artificial upwelling. Her research aims to clarify the internal relationship between the technical settings of the artificial system and the carbon sequestration flux of the applied ocean and build essential bridges to achieve CO₂ removal effectively and efficiently.

She led three projects from National Science Foundation of China, a sub project of national key R & D plan and etc. in an intensive effort of revealing the role of ocean in absorbing or releasing atmospheric CO₂ under artificial upwelling. Her interest in this subject has taken her into a wide range of fields, including process modeling, laboratory mechanism exploration, field trials and assessment. She has published nearly 30 papers in recent years and is involved in the editorial board of two international journals (Elsevier).
